3 Reasons Why We Get Wrinkles (and how to best defeat them)

3 Reasons Why We Get Wrinkles (and how to best defeat them)

Answering the age old question...

As we get older, our skin naturally becomes less elastic and more fragile. Decreased production of natural oils dries our skin and makes it appear more wrinkled.

1. Ageing
Wrinkles are a by-product of the ageing process. As people age, skin cells divide more slowly, and the middle layer of the skin, called the dermis, begins to thin. The dermis is composed of a network of elastin and collagen fibres, which offer support and elasticity. As this network loosens and unravels with time, depressions are created on the skin surface. Ageing skin is also less able to retain moisture, less efficient in secreting oil, and slower to heal. All these factors contribute to the development of wrinkles.

2. Facial muscle contractions
Lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows (frown lines), and jutting from the corner of the eyes (crow's feet) are believed to develop because of small muscle contractions. Smiling, frowning, squinting and other habitual facial expressions cause these wrinkles to become more prominent. Over time, these expressions coupled with gravity contribute to the formation of wrinkles.

3. Sun damage
Excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun can result in premature ageing of the skin, also known as photoaging. Exposure to UV light breaks down collagen fibres and leads to the production of abnormal elastin. When ultraviolet light damages skin tissue, an enzyme called metalloproteinase is produced. This enzyme creates and reforms collagen. During the process, however, some healthy collagen fibres are damaged, resulting in solar elastosis—the disorganised formation of fibres. Wrinkles develop when the rebuilding process occurs over and over, less efficiently each time.

1. Moisturise
Moisturising is a very important step! It gives our skin a smoother appearance and rids it of flaking and dullness. It also plumps fine lines by adding water to the skin, making wrinkles appear less noticeable.

2. Hydrate
Not only should you drink a lot of water, but you should also use it to clean your skin thoroughly. It may not seem ideal to take a bath or shower every day, but it is great for your skin to cleanse your body with water to clear out and unclog pores to keep your skin moist and healthy.

3. SoSmooth Skincare Anti-Wrinkle Silicone Patches
We wouldn't say it if it wasn't true! Thousands of women all over the globe are loving the results of their SoSmooth Skincare anti-wrinkle patches. Combining the great benefits of hydration and moisture, you're getting the best of both worlds with the anti-wrinkle patches.

The anti-wrinkle patches work by drawing in moisture from the lower layers of the skin for a more deeper and balanced hydration. The micro-environment that is formed once the silicone patches are on your skin allow the rich hydration to penetrate more deeply. With this new environment formed, your skin is happy and thriving, giving you an increase in blood stimulation. This is key in giving you that youthful, plump and radiant complexion.

If you could turn back time and change one thing about how you took care of your skin, what would you change?
